Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Stagger Lee

Great imagery, if not a little dark from one of the best songwriters in the last 30 years.

Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster – In The Garden

A great live band, a great video and will be sadly missed after splitting up earlier this year. This song sat on the EP between The Royal Society and last years’ fine Blood & Fire. The Cramps meets The Misfits meets Nick Cave.

Einsturzende Neubauten – Yu-Gung (Futter Mein Ego)

From the mid 80s album Halber Mensch, this is 7 minutes of raw Industrial experimenting with hypnotic rhythms, snarling vocals and construction tools.

Artery – Afterwards

A largely over looked Sheffield post punk band from the late 70s/early 80s. Orwellian imagery and stark guitars collide.

Portishead – Machine Gun

It may have taken 10 years for the third album to come, but when it did it was worth the wait. The transition from the Ukulele led Deep Water to this dirty industrial piece on the album is brilliant.

Rolo Tomassi – Party Wounds

Formidable live band and short snippet from the second album Cosmology – the song dips through various hardcore and progressive changes and there’s some impressively demonic female vocals on show.
